Construction insurance and decarbonization of buildings

Insurance

In France, we benefit from the most protective insurance regime in the world, made compulsory by the law of January 4, 1978. Insurers are obliged to cover major damage occurring within ten years of acceptance of the work by the client. In return, these insurances, which must be taken out before the start of the project, must, for the sake of the industry's equilibrium, be part of an established framework referring to known and measured risks.

The building industry is undergoing a veritable systemic transformation in response to environmental challenges and/or the need to catch up digitally. The act of constructing buildings is in a state of upheaval. Off-site construction, re-use of materials, smart building - all these developments are impacting well-established processes, and changing the nature of the players or traditional roles. Risks are evolving, and new ones are appearing that are not yet fully understood.

This fundamental trend is challenging the world of insurance, and more than ever, it calls for a new dialogue between all the links in the industry's value chain and insurers, throughout the entire building life cycle. This is the key to combining the need for innovation with the need to safeguard our level of protection.
