SAUTER Smart Actuator is a new generation of intelligent, IoT-compatible actuators.

As part of its digitalization strategy, SAUTER Régulation SAS is extending its range of actuators to include a new generation of intelligent, IoT-compatible actuators: the Smart Actuator.

The Smart Actuator fulfills the functions of valve actuator, control and SAUTER Cloud integration. It is flexible and provides predictive maintenance.

Flexible installation

The Smart Actuator offers semi-autonomous control of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment. SAUTER Control provides configuration data for the control and a library of predefined control configurations in its Cloud. This gives installers access to a wide range of applications, from which they can build their own installations. Commissioning is then a simple matter of setting parameters on the mobile application. This installation flexibility offers valuable advantages to operators:

- No need to check often complex wiring at commissioning time.

- Installation time can be reduced by 30%.

- Operating data can be viewed graphically and in real time via the SAUTER Cloud. Anticipated connectivity In the case of small installations, the Smart Actuator is integrated directly and conveniently into the Cloud via the wireless network. Operators can control and monitor their plants via the SAUTER Cloud using their smartphone. For larger, more complex installations, the Smart Actuator features an RS-485 interface and a Wi-Fi interface for integration in building management networks. Where a building management network already exists, the Smart Actuator can be integrated via BACnet/IP, MS/TP or Modbus. Two universal I/Os enable additional sensors or actuators to be connected. The range of applications can be extended with the optional I/O box.

Predictive maintenance

For safe, reliable operation, SAUTER's Cloud Services range from commissioning to preventive overhaul, monitoring and system optimization/maintenance. The foundation of these services is continuous inspection. For example, it records leaks, water hammer or wear on valves. The Smart Actuator's additional sensors take on this role, capturing data on the actuator's status and then transmitting it to the SAUTER Cloud. The data is analyzed by comparison with reference values. The system status is accessible at all times, and maintenance operations can be planned. The system derives recommendations for action or maintenance. It indicates when certain control functions or valves need to be checked. Components are therefore replaced before malfunctions occur. This is a major advantage, avoiding time-consuming manual inspections and costly unplanned shutdowns. The IoT-enabled Smart Actuator represents an intelligent solution for energy distribution in smart buildings, and is easy to commission.
